The ӦsterreichischesSprachdiplom Deutsch ( Ӧsd) exam is recognized internationally as a proof of language competence in German and range from A1 to C2 levels. Ӧsd fosters the concept of German being a polycentric language; thus, representing the standard varieties of the German speaking countries Austria, Switzerland and Germany (DACH countries) are equally represented in the exam.

The ÖSD Exam consists of the four modules Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. The modules can be taken individually or in combination and certified. If all four modules have been passed on one examination date, an overall certificate will be issued. Likewise, examination participants receive an overall certificate if they have completed and passed the four modules within one year at the same examination center. If individual modules are passed, one module certificate is issued per module.

Ösd Certificate A1

For the ÖSD Certificate A1 exam, participants should be able to communicate on an elementary basis in simple situations of everyday life.
ÖSD Certificate A1 is aimed at German learners from the age of 14 and represents proof of linguistic competence in routine situations with familiar topics and activities.
The exam ÖSD Zertifikat A1 consists of the two modules Written Examination (Reading, Listening, and Writing) and Oral Examination (Speaking), with a focus on receptive skills reading and listening.

Ösd Certificate Kid A1

ÖSD KID A1 checks the linguistic competence of children and young people in private, school and semi-public situations at an elementary level. The focus is on the simple and direct exchange of information about familiar things.
This exam is offered for learners aged 10 and over.
The ÖSD KID A1 exam consists of the two modules Written Examination (Reading, Listening, and Writing) and Oral Examination (Speaking), with a focus on the receptive skills of reading and listening.

Ösd Certificate A2

Participants in the ÖSD Certificate A2 exam should be able to communicate on an elementary level in simple, routine situations of everyday and professional life.
This exam for German learners aged 14 and over is proof of linguistic competence in routine situations with familiar topics and activities.
The exam ÖSD Zertifikat A2 consists of the two modules Written Examination (Reading, Listening, and Writing) and Oral Examination (Speaking), with a focus on the receptive skills of reading and listening.

Ösd Certificate A2 kid

ÖSD KID A2 checks the linguistic competence of children and adolescents in simple, routine situations of everyday life. The focus is on the simple and direct exchange of information about familiar things.
This exam is offered for learners aged 10 and over.
The ÖSD KID A2 exam consists of the two modules Written Examination (Reading, Listening, and Writing) and Oral Examination (Speaking), with a focus on the receptive skills of reading and listening.

Ösd Certificate B1

The ÖSD Certificate B1 exam tests the ability to use language independently in everyday and professional situations where familiar topics and personal areas of interest are at stake.
This exam is offered for learners aged 16 and over and in a version for young people aged 12 and over.
The exam consists of four modules, with the reading, listening, writing and speaking exam modules being taken independently at different times.
The Zertifikat B1 exam is a joint product of the ÖSD, Goethe-Institute (GI) and the Learning and Research Centre of the University of Fribourg/Switzerland and is offered worldwide by both the ÖSD and the Goethe-Institute.

Ösd Certificate B1 Youth

The examination ÖSD Certificate B1 / Young People tests the ability to use language independently in situations of everyday and school life, in which familiar topics and personal areas of interest are at stake.
This exam is offered to learners aged 12 and over.
The exam consists of four modules, with the reading, listening, writing and speaking exam modules being taken independently at different times.
The Certificate B1 / Youth exam is a joint product of the ÖSD, Goethe-Institut (GI) and the Learning and Research Centre of the University of Fribourg/Switzerland and is offered worldwide by both the ÖSD and the Goethe-Institute.

Ösd Certificate B2

For the ÖSD Zertifikat B2 exam, participants should be able to express themselves clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics and to have a normal conversation with native speakers spontaneously and fluently.
With this examination, German learners demonstrate language competence in communication situations that go beyond the private sector into the (semi-)public and partly professional area. In your own special field, texts on specialist topics can already be understood.
This exam is aimed at learners from the age of 16, for exam participants from the age of 14 a youth variant is available.
The exam ÖSD Zertifikat B2 consists of the two modules Written Examination (Reading, Listening, and Writing) and Oral Examination (Speaking).

Ösd Certificate B2 Youth

For the ÖSD Certificate B2 / Young People exam, participants should be able to express themselves clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics and to have a normal conversation with native speakers spontaneously and fluently.
With this examination, German learners from the age of 14 demonstrate language competence in communication situations that go beyond the private sector into the (semi-)public or subject-specific area. The same requirements apply as for ÖSD Certificate B2, but the topics and texts are adapted to the living environment of young people.
The examination ÖSD Zertifikat B2 / Jugend consists of the two modules Written Examination (Reading, Listening, Writing) and Oral Examination (Speaking).

BENEFITS OF ÖSD

A huge benefit for Ӧsd is that it is easier to clear all the papers as you only need to pass listening reading and writing separately with 60% and speaking separately with 60%. You also have the added benefit of using dictionaries for the B1 and B2 exams.
